JULY 8, 1993, 7:50 AM, MILDENHALL AIR BASE, ENGLAND
Sunny and windy
Haven’t written much since I arrived. Head in a swirl! It is truly rural. This will definitely be a new experience. Bill, my neighbor from Wiesbaden, he is being very nice, but probably getting a little bored driving around looking at houses to rent. We did go to Ely. Nice place. Beautiful cathedral. We are staying at the Officers Club. Hope I can stay longer than tonight. Going to check right now. Can’t finish at CPO until this afternoon, but I do have a PO Box. Houses are not too expensive, but will have to drive quite a ways to work. Luckily the school doesn’t start until 8:45am.
Same day, 9:50pm…. Went to Bury St. Edmunds today. Nice city. Found a house I liked but it was taken. I only get about 490 pounds a month from the army so I can’t go wild. Have to be practical. Bill had to get a room at Lakenheath Air Force Base tonight. He’s okay, but is definitely flirts with all the men, which is expected, I guess as he is gay. He’s leaving on Sunday. It’s been super having him here, but I need to get on with my life. Tomorrow we go off to Cambridge for the day.
JULY 9, 1993, GATEWAY INN, MILDENHALL, ENGLAND, SUFFOLK
Raining hard! Listening to English radio. The classical station is nice. Off to Cambridge today. Driving on M5 and 6. Careful! M4, the phones out of order. The English radio gives travel news periodilcally. Many of the houses are made of flint, a local stone. When you want to pull off to the side of the road it’s called a layby. Big sign SLOW DOWN NOW on the country narrow 2 lane roads.

Sunday, July 11, 1993, 6:30pm
Bill left this morning and I found my way to Feltwell Air Force Base. Looked around the PX, and drove to Haddenhall, but got caught in a bycycle race and didn’t find the church hall.
TUESDAY, JULY 13, 1993, VILLAGE OF MILDENHALL, MAIN STREET
Sitting on a bench outside the church. The only place I could find to sit other then the walkplatz or the bus station. My car is at the garage having the lights changed to conform with the Ministry of Trangposrtation standards. I cost me 24 pounds for the exam and today will be another 100. At least they take VISA. Had tea and a scone in the tea shop. Glad I brought an umbrella. Clouds coming in.
