Kindness: The quality or state of being kind…An instance of kind behavior. (American Heritage College Dictionary)
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” Mark Twain
“My religion is simple. My religion is kindness.” Dalai Lama
In this time of twitter and Facebook with the trolls and bots and unending negativity it is difficult to remember that most people are kind. Of course kindness starts with our own self. Smiling at a neighbor. Listening well. Offering help when needed. Just nodding to a passing stranger.
Our country is in a state of confusion and division. If we think kindly we can change that. Listen to the words of our leaders. Sort the wheat from the chaff. Pick out words that denote kindness to all people, regardless of race, religion, status, or political preference.
We have the power to change the direction of our country. That power is in voting. We need to vote for kindness.
“Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” Franklin Delano Roosevelt
